Is Knee Pain Holding You Back?
Why painkillers and visits to your GP are not the answer!
Knee pain is often dismissed as wear and tear, or simply something that comes with age. In some cases patients believe that it will just go away over time on its own. However, as well as being extremely frustrating, living with knee pain can be debilitating and can prevent you from doing all of those activities that you have previously taken for granted.
At Recover Physio, we want to cure your knee pain without injections, without having to take painkillers and without you having to go through an operation or wear a knee brace. We want to see you enjoying an active and pain-free life again in the shortest time possible.

If you can’t quite put your finger on what your problem is and where the pain is coming from in your knee, then you are not alone. We see this kind of problem all the time. In fact knee pain is one of the most common conditions we treat.
When it comes to living with knee pain, people invariably ask the same questions:
“Why is my pain not getting better?”
“Why is my pain getting worse even though I am resting?”
Lots of people believe that their knee pain will simply wear off or get better over time. That one morning they will wake up and their pain will have magically disappeared and that their debilitating knee condition will be a thing of the past! The reality, unfortunately, is that just doesn’t happen. The knee is a very complicated joint that you use all of the time and, left untreated, the pain will continue to get worse, preventing you from doing the things you want to do.
Does that sound like you?
Another scenario we hear about all the time in our clinics is patients who have been to the doctor and been told to simply rest and take painkillers, or to wear a knee support. Weeks later, with no sign of improvement, our patient was left feeling they had wasted their time, still unable to enjoy the activities that they want to do. Some then go back to the doctors only to be prescribed more rest and stronger painkillers.
Has this ever happened to you?
Maybe you’re confused because different people are telling you different things, or you feel that rest is the best thing because every time you try to do anything, even walk, your knee hurts?
Maybe you’ve been told to do particular exercises by one person, but totally different exercises by someone else?
When faced with poor or conflicting advice, it can become very confusing and frustrating. What is the best thing to do to relieve the pain? Will your knee ever actually recover?
Because of this confusion people often do not know what to do to fix their knee pain. Worse, many simply dismiss the pain and start accepting it as part of life, something that they will always have to live with.
Is this how you feel?
Meet Angela who went from frustrating knee pain to running 5K
Before I came to Recover Physio for my knee, I couldn’t bend, couldn’t do gardening… now I barely feel any pain at all.
If you are currently living with knee pain, there are 5 key reasons why it could be lasting much longer than it should:
- You thought it would go away on its own after a period of rest, but it didn’t. You tried ice, heat and even supports but they did nothing to help.
- You went to the doctor who told you to rest, wear a support and take painkillers, which did nothing to relieve the problem.
- A family member or a friend told you that everyone’s knees get bad, especially as they get older. So you dismissed the problem.
- You have been to healthcare professionals and possibly even physios in the past, but they weren’t able to fix the cause of your pain.
- You’ve tried sports massage but all that did was make it feel slightly better short term, but with no long-term relief.
If any of these 5 things have happened to you, then we would love to offer you a completely free, no obligation telephone consultation with one of our experienced physiotherapists. Just click on the link below to book your complimentary telephone consultation.
If you’ve experience any of the ‘key reasons’ listed above, then here are 4 simple steps that you can take immediately to help with your knee condition:
Make a decision about getting help. So many people are unsure who to go to, the result being that they are left unable to live life to the full. If you recognise yourself in anything we have said so far, then you can take comfort from the fact that you are not alone. We have treated many people just like you at Recover Physiotherapy.
Next, do the right exercise. One of the best things to help you recover quickly and safely from an injury, as well as preventing the recurrence of the injury, is by doing to right series of progressed exercises. The correct exercises given to you by a physiotherapist will reduce pain, allow you to move more freely and return you to a pain-free life far quicker.
Avoid too much rest and sitting in awkward positions. Whilst rest can be an aspect of the recovery process, too much may in fact slow down the healing process. Many people believe that rest means total rest from all activity and exercise. However, in order for an injury to recover, blood flow is required and it is movement that increases this. Appropriate movement and strengthening exercises, alongside hands on treatment, really help to heal the injury. This is the best formula to aid a speedy return to a pain free life.
Get real, hands-on physiotherapy. Physiotherapy is proven to help people with knee injuries to recover. Here at Recover Physio, we help people to recover from knee injuries all year round. If a knee injury is stopping you from keeping active, carrying out your day to day tasks, playing sports, performing your job, or just limiting your independence, then physiotherapy can help you get back to living the life you deserve in the shortest possible time.
